“A Doula for everyone that wants one”

Whether it is your first baby or you have experienced the birth process before, a Doula can invaluably impact the birth and postpartum experience.

Through nurturing physical care, emotional support, and offering expert guidance to make the birth process better, our Devotion is unwavering. Devotion Doula & Yoga offers childbirth education, birth tools, and prenatal yoga to round out your support.

Physical Support

Position ideas for comfort and labor progression cross over with hands-on comfort measures like comforting touch, counter pressure, breathing techniques and use of our favorite props to ease the birth process . A doula’s skilled hands and positioning tools can often help a mal-positioned baby find its way through the pelvis and into the birthing parent’s arms. Leila is a spinning babies parent educator, and has trained to identify optimal fetal positions for comfort in pregnancy and ease in labor. Sometimes this means asking “Where’s baby?” to identify what positions are going to be most effective to bring your baby into the pelvis, through, and out! Additionally, Leila brings tools to offer relief like heating pads, cold packs, massage tools, a rebozo, TENS unit, candles, aromatherapy, music, and more…

Emotional Support

Leila is trained to help families to feel supported. By easing the emotional experience of birth and also helping to create a space where the hormones of labor can work at their best, she will guide through preparation, and connections with other birth professionals. Whether a birth is completely unmedicated or medically very complex, every family can benefit from nurturing and connection at this tender, incredible time in their lives.

Partner and Family Support

Whether it’s a romantic partner, a friend or another family member like the baby’s grandmother or sibling, the birth partner’s experience matters in birth. Everyone in the birth team and extended family deserve a positive experience. Physical and emotional support make a huge difference for everyone involved. Leila is successful at assisting with keeping additional families in the loop during the birth, helping younger siblings, and take photos of the birth. Most importantly, Leila believes that families grow during a birth in more ways than just adding a member. By getting through the hard work together, by supporting each other, you learn about how you will parent, love, and support your child. Like a ghost in the room, Leila offers words for supporting teams on “where counter pressure would be effective, how to apply a new position, and when to look for tension to release” allowing the partner or family to be the forefront of care.

Evidence-Based Information and Advocacy - Read more

Leila is trained to help families connect with evidence-based resources so they can ask great questions and make informed decisions about their births. I serve as a bridge of communication between women and their providers, lifting them up to help them find their voices and advocate for the very best care. There is a lot of conversation surrounding doulas being the advocate for the birth, however Leila believes in teaching and assisting the family to advocate for themselves. This creates a more solid basis for reasoning, and empowerment beyond belief. When you need another voice, Leila will step in to ask for more time for you to think/pray about the decision, ask for alternatives for you to consider, and propose additional questions to the medical team to be sure all avenues of informed consent have been delivered.
